Fall, specifically October, is known as pumpkin season! Perhaps, you’re enjoying a pumpkin spice latte as you read this. I have some exciting news… horses can eat pumpkins too. In fact, they actually really enjoy them. The flesh and seeds are safe for their consumption. Many horse owners use the canned stuff for baking treats, as well.
These cookies are filled with yummy ingredients that your horse will love! They’re easy to store and can be kept at the barn.

Pumpkin Oatmeal Horse Cookies DIY Recipe

4 cups whole oats
1 can pumpkin
2 cups water
2 tsp baking powder
1 ¾ cup whole wheat flour
2 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp nutmeg
1 tbsp honey or molasses (optional)
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Thoroughly mix the pumpkin and water together.
- Add the flour, oats, and spices.
- If desired, mix in the honey or molasses.
- Drop a few tablespoons of the mixture onto a greased cookie sheet.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until done.
